Let Knowledge Serve the City
Let Knowledge Serve the City was a site-specific installation at the Condensations of the Social show (curated by Sara Reisman) at Smack Mellon in New York. The project was a collaborative endeavor with six colleagues (Ariana Jacob, Lexa Walsh, Katherine Ball, Constance Hockaday, Michelle Swinehart and Hannah Jickling) to create a free school in the gallery space of Smack Mellon. We were interested in what we could learn from the neighborhood, and how we could share this learning with a wider audience.
We worked both inside and outside of the gallery, finding sites of learning in the neighborhood of DUMBO. We used handmade flags to denote these potential pedagogical opportunities.
We also ran an event series inside the gallery space, bringing local residents and business owners from the neighborhood into the gallery space to share their knowledge.
